Hello, I’m Marcia! I’m a licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s degree from Rutgers University, where I focused on clinical studies and developmental disabilities. Before graduate school, I attended Kean University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. I have more than 15 years of experience in healthcare, working with adults, families, and children.
My passion for helping others began at a young age. I volunteered at a nursing home and enjoyed interacting with the residents and staff. I found pleasure in listening to their stories of life experiences and the competitive games of bingo and Pokeno!
As I grew older, I realized the uniqueness — yet commonality — of my family’s journey as immigrants from the Caribbean. I recognized how the experience impacted many aspects of our emotional well-being and how other families may also be impacted but do not seek support. This is what motivated me to become a therapist. My experiences remind me of the importance of practicing cultural humility, patience, and understanding in a therapeutic setting. I aim to encourage self-advocacy skills, clarity, and strength, and I always bring a sense of humor to client sessions.
My clinical experience includes working with children, adolescents, and families in individual, family, and group therapy settings. My areas of interest include ADHD, anger management, anxiety, behavioral issues, chronic pain, feeding therapy, depression, intergenerational trauma, racial identity, trauma, and adjustment to life stressors.
